Ways to find your lost Android phone
You can afford to lose the love of your life, but who can really afford to lose a phone today! Loaded with numbers, pictures, videos, apps and what not, losing a phone can be quite a setback for millennials. However, you can’t wish all the ills of the world away and your phone being lost or stolen is always a real option.
So, here are the steps to easily find your lost Android device.
Use Find My Device
Most Android phones today come with the nifty ‘Find My Device’ feature. What this essentially does is automatically track your phone’s location. All you have to do is get hold of a laptop or another phone, find its last known location and set out on the hunt. If you feel like your device has data that might be compromised, just lock and erase your phone. For this service to work, however, you do have to set your phone up for the eventuality, otherwise, it’s lost in the abyss.
How do I enable this feature?
In the latest Android models, this service is already located in your Settings. However, if you don’t find it, follow these steps –
-Tap Security & lock screen.
-Tap Device administrators.
-Tap Find My Device so that a checkmark appears.
-Tap the back button in the top left corner of your screen.
– Return to the main Settings.
-Tap Location and turn it on.
-Tap Mode, then High accuracy.
– Go back and tap Google Location History.
– Tap the switch beside your device so that it turns on.
How do I use this feature?
You will first have to log into your Google account from any computer or another phone. Navigate to android.com/find, enter your email address and password, and complete the 2-step verification set up on your Google account (if any).
Once Find My Device opens up, you can secure your device so that the finder can’t access your home screen. You can also erase your phone, in case you feel you will not be able to retrieve it, but still, at least protect your information.
If you want to obtain the real-time location of your device constantly, consider using third-party apps like Spyzie or Family Locator. They essentially serve as a GPS tracker for phones. For instance, with Family Locator, your family members become a ‘Circle’. Your family members will then appear on live maps within the app as little icons so that you can see where everyone is at any given moment. If a phone from within your Circle is ever lost, the app will track it on the map.
Use your IMEI number
IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity Number) is a unique serial number that is given to every smartphone. Though, you need to know the IMEI number of your phone beforehand.
NOTE: You can note the IMEI number from the back of your phone or dial *#60# to obtain it. After obtaining it, you can take the assistance of any dedicated IMEI online search portal to track your lost phone. You can also call your service provider and obtain your device’s location by giving its IMEI number.
