WhatsApp To Roll Out A New Feature “Disappearing Messages” Very Soon

Two years back, WhatsApp incorporated an interesting and unique feature, “Delete for Everyone” that offered a 7 minute limit for deleting the message. With a positive response, the company planned to extend the limit to over an hour. Recently, WhatsApp introduced a host of new features and updates for Android and iOS. Some of these striking features are fingerprint unlock, dark mode, QR code, PiP Mode 2.0 or a voice messaging preview. Once again WhatsApp is working for the release of a new feature named “Disappearing Messages” that will disappear the chats automatically if eligible for the disappearance.

If you are still unsure about the new disappearing messages feature, here is a brief that will enlighten you about the way it will work. The new feature will allow the users to set a time limit for a particular message that wILL be chosen by the user and as soon as the time limit is over, the message will expire and there be no trace of existence. This feature is said to resemble the social messaging app, Telegram’s Secret Chat feature where all the sent messages appear with a self-destruct timer. Once the message has been seen by the recipient, the timer will start and the message will get deleted from the sender as well as receiver’s inbox when the timer goes off or the time limit lapses. This feature will be advantageous for the users who wish to share information over a social messaging platform but do not want to store the message or keep a record of it forever.

According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the disappearing feature is in its alpha stage which denotes that the company has just started to work on it. As of now, the feature is only available in the group chats. To enable the feature, users just need to tap on Disappearing Messages option in the Group Settings. As soon as the option is chosen, the users will be asked to select a time after which messages will get deleted automatically. At present, WhatsApp is offering two options – 5 seconds and 1 hour to users. There is no other time frame in between.

It is likely for WhatsApp to offer this feature soon for private chats. If you are one of them using an Android smartphone, you can then try downloading the WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.19.175 to get this feature. Chances are high that you will not be able to use this feature for now.  Don’t get disappointed because WhatsApp has not yet rolled out this feature to all its beta users.
