Xiaomi Teases Its First Smartwatch Way Ahead Of Its Launch

Xiaomi has established a legacy by bringing the world’s best fitness trackers- Mi Band series at an affordable rate. The company also has successfully created a solid base in the smartphone market but was nowhere when it came to a smartwatch.

But finally, Xiaomi is all set to take a step forward in the smartwatch business. According to reports, Xiaomi will launch its first-ever smartwatch along with Mi cc9 Pro in China on November 5. However, the Chinese smartphone maker has already teased the device to create a hype for the wearable. The render teased by the company suggests it will be a glorified version of the Amazfit GTS smartwatch.

The features of the Xiaomi Mi watch resemble the popular Apple Watch. The smartwatch is expected to be powered by Snapdragon 3100 Wear platform. However, no news has been revealed on whether the device will run on Wear OS by Google. The official video has hyped the excitement level of fans since the display of the Mi watch appears in full glory. The video first spotted by IndiaShopps was shared by Qu Heng, General Manager of Xiaomi’s Ecological Chain.

The teaser also disclosed the basic design elements and few of the interesting software features of the Mi Watch. It looks like the company has customized its MIUI for smartwatches and Mi Watch to run “MIUI for Watch”. The UI is based on Wear OS by Google. The video also reveals that the wearable will gift us various apps. It might also have a launcher similar to the one seen on Android smartphones. Some of the apps teased include calls, contacts, alarm, messages, clock, Mi Fit, Alipay, WeChat and more.

The first smartwatch from Xiaomi is expected to boast an OLED display. There is a placement of a button that looks the same as the digital crown on Apple watch. The purpose of this feature is to navigate the interface especially for those who are reluctant to use the touchscreen display. A report by 9To5 Google revealed that the Xiaomi smartwatch may come with Watch OS. The speculation is based on a Wear OS app update that they have spotted under the moniker “Xiaomi Mi Watch”.
