India Becomes Second Largest Smartphone Market in the World, Tops US

India has surpassed the US smartphone market for the first time on an annual level, becoming the second-largest smartphone market after China. As per reports, the annual shipments in the calendar year 2019 have reached 158 million with 7 percent overall growth.
Xiaomi turned out to be the top player contributing 28 percent market share in 2019, followed by Samsung at 21 percent and Vivo at 16 percent market shareholding in the third place. Moreover, the past four years have been flourishing for Xiaomi, Vivo, and OnePlus, allowing them to grow 15 times, 24 times, and 18 times, respectively.
On the other side, shipments for Samsung remained almost flat showing a decline of 5 percent in 2019. While the smartphone market registered a Y-o-Y growth, the feature phone market witnessed a steep decline of almost 42 percent in 2019. And, as per reports, itel emerged as the number one feature phone brand in Q4 of 2019 followed by Samsung and Lava.
