Just a few weeks ago, OnePlus had teased a OnePlus smartwatch. Although OnePlus didn’t have a release date for the device, a new report suggests the smartwatch project was “indefinitely delayed”.
The first rumours about a OnePlus smartwatch had surfaced in 2016. At the beginning of the month, OnePlus itself hinted at the OnePlus 8T Launch Event that a smartwatch could be launched in the near future that might bear the name OnePlus Watch.
According to the new leaks, the OnePlus Watch announcement has been postponed without any new date. While the reasons for this step are unknown, but it is possible that there are some complications with the production or software development.
The leaker has speculated that production or software development may have caused more severe delays for the new smartwatch. Based on the timing, it’s possible that OnePlus might still be able to get this product to market before the Holiday season, but based on the fact that we only were shown a teaser for this watch based on old sketches, we might be waiting well into next year.
It’s been previously reported that the new device would borrow its design from the vivo Watch announced in September. It’s possible OnePlus could put the latest Snapdragon Wear 4100 Platform that’s a significant update in performance and efficiency over the 2100 and 3100 Platforms. Currently, the only smartwatch with this new Platform is the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, which sells for $299.
